All lanes both north and southbound will be closed starting at nine o'clock, between just south of State Route 119 and Houghton Road near Alameda.
The closure is necessary to allow PG&E to repair overhead power lines over the 99 that were damaged earlier today which knocked out power to many homes in the area.
The closure is expected to last about half an hour.
Detours will be in place to direct motorists around the closure.
There is no word yet from Caltrans or PG&E about what caused the damage or exactly how many homes are affected.
