Woman with Alzheimer's reunites with cat after Thomas Fire

Angel the cat was missing for nearly three months

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - It was a sweet reunion for a woman with a debilitating disease who lost everything during the Thomas Fire.

Well almost everything.

That was until this past week, when she was reunited with her beloved cat.

Three months after the devastating Thomas fire ripped through Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties, cleanup continues.

Forty years of Lorrie Colburn's life, being hauled away in a dump truck.

Lauren and Dorella Shields also lost everything in the fire. Everything except for Angel.

Dorella Shields has stage 4 Alzheimer's and her cat Angel went missing during the fire. Dorella's husband Lauren searched for Angel for nearly three months.

He prayed for Angel's return- to help his wife.

Those prayers were answered about a week ago when Lorrie Colburn heard that a family was searching for a sweet old calico cat, just like the cat she found.

Colburn immediately got in contact with the Shields who immediately came out to see if she had their cat, and she did.

"She started crying and petting the cat so it was pretty moving and it was pretty special so Angel is back where she belongs," Lorrie said.
